QUESTION: WHAT IS THE BREWING TEMPERTURE ON HIS MACHINE?
• It is not possible to measure the temperature due to the design of the machine. There is no way of getting a thermometer into the filter pod. I have measured the temperature of the coffee after it fills the carafe, and the temperature is consistently about 182 degrees. I do not pre-heat my carafes before brewing. From my research this is where you want to be. Ideal brewing temp is around 200 degrees and the temperature will obviously drop while filling a cold carafe. The coffee maker is great, if you are debating whether to buy it or not, I would say go for it. Nothing like freshly ground and freshly brewed coffee.
• Consumer Reports tested and reported :'Met recommended guidelines of 195°F or more, maintained for five or six minutes.' I owned the previous model BREBDC600XL and I can attest the BCG650BSS does a much better job of brewing at a decent temp.
QUESTION: CAN YOU ACCESS ALL OF THE WATER CHAMBERS FOR PROPER AND THOROUGH CLEANING? I DON'T JUST WANT TO RUN VINEGAR THROUGH THE CHAMBER THAT I CANNOT OPEN AND ACTUALLY WHITE CLEAN
• It would not be easy to get to the water chamber I don't think. It is easy to get to the burr grinder and easy to clean the filter and the basket holder
• No. Seen expresso machines that permit that, but not many coffee makers.
QUESTION: HOW DOES THIS MODEL DIFFER FROM THE OLDER MODEL AND ARE THE PARTS AND CARAFE INTERCHANGEABLE?
• They created a separate grind system that just doesn't work If you want to adjust. You need to GRINF AND WEIGH EVERY TYPE OF COFFEE. It's a home machine. They really screwed this up
• Breville has redesigned everything that was wrong with the old model as well as made this new model easier to use and added some handy features such as calibration. A new grinder is used to resolve the issue with too coarse of a grind making weak coffee. The heater is also relocated to ensure the coffee is brewed hot instead of lukewarm like the old model. The filter basket and carafe are the same and are interchangeable.
• The only difference is that you can adjust the coarseness of the grind. The carafe is interchangeable with the last model.
• it will hold about a 1/2 lb. plus the hopper has a release which allows you to take it out and dump out the remaining beans and change them to another flavor.
• Approximately 1/2 pound of whole beans. I make a full carafe (12cups)daily and fill the bean hopper every 3 days
• The hopper for this coffeemaker holds a half a pound of coffee beans
QUESTION: WHAT TYPE OF COFFEE FILTER DOES IT USE? DOES IT COME WITH A GOLD SCREEN FILTER?
• It comes with a 12 cup gold screen filter. Not cone shaped, flat bottom
• Yes it comes with a gold screen coffee filter. I use the cheap flat bottom paper filters just for ease of use.. Makes great coffee either way. Enjoy!
• yes the Breville does come with a gold screen filter, you can also a use a paper filter, the round style, not a cone filter.
• Yes it comes with a basket for the coffee grounds but if you choose to use a paper filter you can it has to be an 8 to 12 cup filter of your choosing
QUESTION: HOW MUCH WATER DOES IT HOLD? DO YOU HAVE TO ADD WATER EACH TIME, OR DOES IT ONLY DISPENSE WHAT IS NEEDED FOR EACH CUP/CARAFE?
• It holds up to 12 cups and will either dispense all the water you put on, or a designated amount of it, you get to easily choose that in the settings on the front.
QUESTION: AM I CRAZY OR IS THERE NO OFF BUTTON ON THIS MACHINE? IF I LEAVE THE BASKET OUT TO SOAK OVERNIGHT IT STAYS ON AND SCREEN LIT ALL NIGHT!
• Yes, the screen stays lit until you clean and replace the basket. It is my only complaint about this unit.
• That is true. This is to remind you to empty the filter pod and rinse it out. I simply open and close the filter pod after brewing, this will allow the brewer display to turn off (after the 10 minute delay). Just remember to empty and rinse the filter pod before brewing your next pot - I have made that mistake a couple times.
QUESTION: DOES THE UNIT TURN OFF ONCE COFFEE BREWED AND KEPT WARM IN THE CARAFE?
• It turns off, I'm not sure if it keeps heating it. It seems plenty hot an hour or more later but after that I don't drink it anyway. The carafe is like a thermos.
• Yes, I believe it does. The display seems to stay lit for some time before shutting off.
QUESTION: SOMETIMES THE COFFEE GRINDS OVERFLOW OUT OF THE BASKET, CLOG THE OPENING (THAT FILLS THE CARAFE), AND COFFEE SPILLS ON THE COUNTER. WHAT'S WRONG?
• Perhaps you forgot to clean out the grounds from the last time you made coffee. You have to also wash out the parts that hold the basket.
• You either did not clean out the old grounds/filter, or your grind is too fine. Try a coarser grind. Also make sure to always use the supplied carafe when in 'carafe' mode. The design of the lid allows the water to flow. If you do not use the supplied lid the pod will overflow.
• Yes, most of the internal parts are plastic.
• Yes. The water reservoir is plastic as well as filter basket.
• Yes. It appears the water and beans reservoirs are plastic as well as the channel for the grinds. The top and handle of the coffee pot are also plastic
QUESTION: ABOUT HOW MANY HOURS DOES THE COFFEE STAY HOT AFTER ITS DONE
• The BDC650BSS Grind Control features a thermally insulated carafe, with the lid attached and present as well as proper pre-heating of the carafe the coffee is sustained at a nice steamy hot temperature for up to 4 hours, possibly even longer depending on personal preferences.
• The coffee in the carafe will stay hot for several hours. I've emptied the carafe 6 hours after brewing and there is still steam.
QUESTION: WHAT IS THE FULL HEIGHT OF THIS COFFEE MAKER?
• Yea - it stands about 16.5 inches from top to bottom of the unit - I measured it. Did not however account for the grinder adjustment that sticks out on the top left about another 1/2 inch or so
QUESTION: CAN YOU BREW WITH GROUND COFFEE OR DO YOU HAVE TO START WITH WHOLE BEANS EACH TIME?
• The built-in grinder can be disabled allowing you to put pre-ground coffee in the basket and brew using that.
Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker Instructions
• 8 strength settings or choose Pre-Ground coffee option
• The BDC650BSS Grind Control features a 'Pre-Ground' mode which bypasses the grinder so that pre-ground coffee can be used within the gold tone or a paper filter.
• The BDC650BSS Grind Control Coffee Machine is BPA Free.
